Words, Works & Wonders

In this sermon, we are invited to reflect on the profound image of Jesus entering Jerusalem, not as a conventional king but as a bringer of peace and transformation. Unlike Herod, who asserted dominance with symbols of Roman authority, Jesus’ entrance with palm branches symbolises a peaceful alternative. This powerful scene emphasises the importance of praying for peace in our communities, drawing inspiration from Jeremiah’s advice to pray for the welfare of Babylon, despite being a land of exile. This message extends beyond historical or biblical cities to our own cities, like Colchester, urging us to see them as places of divine destiny and potential. By embracing Jesus’ model of peace, relationship-building, and communal well-being, we are called to actively participate in transforming our cities. Through acts of kindness, sharing the good news, and being conduits of the Holy Spirit, we can foster an environment where joy and peace flourish, revealing the kingdom of God here on earth
