Hiya web, trust you’re having a good week
So, some highlights of the week so far include an emotional seminar leader who hired a room here for a day conference. She was gushing in her praise and so delighted to be here again after 18 months. Similarly for a lady at slimming world this morning, and another at a Tuesday afternoon choir this week. It’s a delight when people comment emotionally on how the atmosphere here is so peaceful pleasant or kind
A sadness is that the Cameroonian trainees are yet to arrive in the country because of visa problems. One has been refused altogether but we were pleased to say yes to having a British Iranian guy called Arian instead, who will arrive Sunday night from Yeovil via the DNA HQ in Horsham. Please pray that the Cameroonians will get the necessary permissions and be able to join him very soon
A disappointment was a call from our agents about downstairs. When I heard he was on the phone I hoped for some info from Aldi in terms of what they are wanting to do after they move out at the end of November. No news. Please pray; the ball is very firmly in Aldi’s court as they have rights and responsibilities for downstairs at least until November 2024. At present it looks like it will be a empty shop for a while at least. That might help with our parking!
A joy was seeing so many mums using the Precious Bundles facilities this morning. Lindsay tells me donations of clothes, particularly warm winter ones, for ages 6 months to 5 years are welcome. They are particularly low on clothes for ages 2-5 and also need cot sheets and blankets, wipes and toiletries. If you can help please leave any donations in the box at the top of the stairs at church. They blessed 45 families this month. Amazing.
A delight was the MAP programme getting off the ground. We had the ‘all together’ last week and on Monday night I met with my small group to think about organisational culture. Another nice thing about the evening was that every room in the building was being used
A win was the sensory room that opened on Sunday morning for youngsters in both services. If your child would like to use it please mention this the C & Y check in, if you’d like to help in the room please see Shaun, Bec or Jill
A hope is that we will be able to reach out to women during baby loss awareness week when, on Sunday 10th October we have an opportunity for those who have suffered a loss, stillbirth a miscarriage to come and light a candle and join a safe space to remember and maybe chat to one of our pastoral team. If you know people who might benefit from this please invite them.
A nice thing was seeing my wife Maggie bring three or four work colleagues to the Cafe at lunchtime today.
I think the biggest laugh so far this week came in our SLT meeting on Tuesday. It was also a very productive meeting as we continued to think through church structure and shape for the next season
I think the most creative thing this week has been my sermon. Tbh I’m not sure anyone will notice but it’s been good to try to craft a sermon for Sunday, the next in the series on Samuel.
Anyway I ought to close – but do join in one or more of the small groups that are happening this term – the people who lead these things are so so good
Thanks for being part of it all
Grace and peace
