A Weekly Hiya,
from Kingsland Church

Hiya

07 December 2021

Hiya web, Trust you’re having a good week

Years ago I used to think about the number of days before Christmas, now I tend to think in terms of the number of Sundays before Christmas services. I realised that it’s just one now!

And on it, 12 December, Seven is speaking in the morning on the Magi, and in the evening we have a special Christmas Encounter at 6.30, the Christmas services start in earnest. On the 19th in the morning the family services will include the Children’s and the adult choir. In the evening we have been amazing Comedians and Carols.

I’m not expecting the Christmas services to be quite as busy as previous years but we will put out all the chairs this year, so that we can distance, and we will keep the masked area too so we hope that this gives people confidence to come out. Again thank you to those who are following government advice and taking lateral flow tests before coming to the services and events

Still looking for help for Christmas Eve, 5 pm Community Carols in the Car Park. Can you help with setting up, making or baking and selling some food and drink (mince pies, sausage rolls etc ) , and setting down. This seems to be coming together nicely and you’re very welcome to be involved

We’ve a fun service at 10.30 on Christmas Day, one at 11am on the 26th and we’re planning a crossover service on the 31st too 10.30pm . Back to the three services on the 2nd. Wednesday at 1 is happening this week (Virginia is speaking) & next of course, with a Christmas special on the 22nd. Wed @ 1 starts again on 5th Jan

We are also holding three nights of prayer on the 5th 6th and 7th Jan at 7.30pm – please plan to join in, in person or on zoom

We’ve a trustees meeting on Thursday, again we are so grateful to the Lord and his people The way we have continued to be effective as a church through 2021 has been amazing. We consider ourselves highly favoured and greatly blessed, having come through this year with all its challenges to health and finances. Thank you so much if you have given to the church recently.

Heard some really nice stories about the brilliant pantomime on Friday – such good event, thoroughly enjoyed by so many people.

Gordon spoke last month about pastor Lorenzo in Cuba. A trial was scheduled this week, you can read more here https://www.csw.org.uk/2021/12/07/press/5501/article.htm

Aldi are clearing the shop as I write, so we hear occasional crashes and hammer blows, and the car park is hosting several large lorries. No news of any potential letting though, so we suspect it will stand empty for a while.

That’ll do for now

Grace and peace

Neil

02 December 2021

Hiya web, trust you’re having a good week.

So the chairs are out for the pantomime* tomorrow. Expecting over 200 people to a good fun event to start the celebrations for Christmas. There are a few decorations up in the church and the Cafe area. All very nice

Tickets for Comedians and Carols are doing well (£7 from the church, or eventbrite* with a booking fee ) and we are getting excited about Community Carols in the Car Park on Christmas Eve too.

For the 24th we’d love for some people to help out with a few things….
Lending and setting up gazebos… we have a couple but would appreciate another 5 or 6
Creating a couple of activities, like guess the number of sweets in the jar
Offering to help children make Christingles
     Doing glitter tattoos or similar
The food…. we’ll do a small recommended donation for food items and we’d love people to make, source and sell sausage rolls,  mince pies, mulled punch, tray bake, hot chocolate, teas and coffees, and candy floss
I’ve an idea about creating a nativity picture, and another activity with a tree to incorporate people’s hopes and prayers for 2022.
And setting it all down.
Please can you help?

It’s Messy Church on Sunday! 3:30 pm, and no need to book now, though a comment on Facebook to say you’re coming is always helpful. It’s the Christmas special this week. There won’t be a Messy Church in January but it will back the first week of February.

If you heard Chris’ brilliant appeal for help on the tech team you’ll know he and the small team do a great job.  if you have a good ear please consider joining the team, particularly with the extra services over Christmas and the new year.

I don’t normally look forward to doing Christmas preaches, but I’ve been inspired by the messages and response to them as we looked at Mary and Joseph this last couple of weeks.  This Sunday it’s the shepherds. Loraine is speaking in the evening “after the birth” Next Sunday Seven will look at the Magi and in the evening it will be the Christmas Encounter!

great news!

Grace and peace

Hiya

25 November 2021

Hiya, trust you’re having a good week

As it’s Thursday I start my attempts to get to the weekend on time. I take Wednesday as a sabbath and that means Monday and Tuesday I’m generally trying to catch up, Thursday and Friday I’m trying to get ready. This week im marginally ahead, having written most of a sermon earlier in the week. It’s on Joseph. Interesting male role model., in fact interesting role model.

I’m meeting a small team today to plot some Colchester joint church events. All good fun. Then after that it’s time for my booster jab, yes I am that old!

I see the government guidance on lateral flow tests has changed. We were encouraged to take a test a couple of times a week, and I know that many of us have been doing that. Now the guidance is to test before attending high risk settings. While we don’t consider the centre to be a high risk setting most weeks because of the size of the place and the way we can separate in the space available, the latest advice does effectively encourage us all to take a test before we come to church. At the moment we aren’t required to check this in England, and don’t want to start, but I wanted to say thank you to those who take regular tests and encourage everyone to take a test before coming to church. Personally Ian and I have been testing before each Sunday morning – and its nice to be so negative, and so ensure we’re not being a risk to people who choose to worship here

That will apply of course to our wonderful Christmas services:

There are still some tickets left for the pantomime next week, fri 3rd with Duggie Dug Dug. Tickets are £5 from the church or, with a booking fee from eventbrite. I’m sure this will be a fantastic evening for the whole family. Never had a panto here before but this will be a quality event.

We are planning something brilliant together for the 19th in the morning, and looking forward to Canadians and carols that evening. This is such a good event to invite everyone to, three clean comedians and a brilliant host, Paul Kerensa who writes for not going out, radio two, Top Gear, Miranda et cetera Tickets are £7 and available from the church hall, with a booking fee from Eventbrite.

Christmas Eve should be fun. We are planning an event in the car Park at 5 pm, the idea is that there will be carols, a few readings and a very very short talk, all around a opportunity to eat drink and be merry together. It would be marvellous if you could help either with set up, with the tech, serving, food and drink, making Christingles with the children, etc, or setting down. Please email sara@kingsland.org.uk or hit reply if you can help, thanks

And please invite everyone. What a great opportunity.

Instigated some pre-service prayer. Each Sunday at 8.30 am, mainly with Karen. We’re trusting that, as last Sunday, some of the words and pictures received there can be shared in the service and that the service itself will be more effective as a result. All welcome .

Have you seen the art project on answered prayer? www.eternalwall.org.uk/testimony

Anyway, I trust you have a great week.

Grace and peace

Thank you. We make this part of our worship once a month as an opportunity to celebrate last months blessings, like the light a candle event, the meals giveaway, and all the ongoing ministries. Thank you for your giving to the Church, theKingdom and the Lord

We continue to open the Genesis & Joshua rooms to extend shekinah and give extra space for social distancing. We’ve designated one area of the Church for people who prefer to wear a mask throughout. Thank you to those who are taking lateral flow tests. Please wear a mask at least until you are seated, and of course feel free to wear it throughout and bear in mind the need to sanitise and distance wherever possible. We’ll begin the services and the stream on YouTube and Facebook at 9.15, 11 and 6.30. The 6.30 service and Wednesday at 1 are smaller congregations so social distancing is really easy.

have a great Sunday
