A Weekly Hiya,
from Kingsland Church

Hiya

24 August 2021
Hiya web, trust you’re having a good week

The bible tells us, and Samuel spoke on it a couple of months ago, ‘rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn’. Sometimes that puts us on an emotional roller coaster but somehow if we are going to love well we need to work out how to identify with others

So it was a joy to rejoice with Beth and Izzy as they got married yesterday (yes a Monday wedding – what strange times we live in!) yet it was only a couple of days after the wake and memorial service for evangelist Charles, it was a delight to hear so many positive testimonials, and while we don’t mourn as those with no hope its still a sad time, and particularly so for the family

We are celebrating some nice ‘wins’ in the centre just now – rejoicing in our renewed 5* cleanliness rating as a cafe, that we seem to be no quieter than other Augusts in the cafe –  and church on Sunday was so good.

We are rejoicing that lots of Children have been signed into holiday club and that there such a good team, so many turned up today to prepare the rooms and create a great environment for the youngsters to enjoy themselves and, we trust, discover more of Jesus

We’re rejoicing that we are able to offer so many autumn groups, mainly starting in September, if you’ve not found a way of doing church together well then please have a look at the leaflet and join in something that will enable you to make great connections, grow in your faith and maybe bring a few others along too

Were preparing to mourn with those who mourn as we get ready for the Light a Candle event with Hunnaballs – that’s 10 – 2 on the 4th Sept here. A prayer room with some marvellous activities that will help people mourn appropriately and remember their loved ones. Please let people know about this opportunity for remembering those we have loved and lost

We’ll rejoice together on our church social on the 3rd – in cudmore grove, east Mersea, from 4 – 9 ish. Do come along, Bring a picnic, some games? A dog?? Your swimming stuff???

We’re rejoicing at the opportunity to have 4 interns with us for the year for the end of September, and grateful to those who have offered accommodation. If you can consider offering that too, please let me know and we’ll let you know the details

Also very happy at the number of people who have appleid to do the MAP course. If you’re interested please start a conversation or get the form in by the end of the month please

The bible says that He will turn our mourning into dancing, there’s no equivalent promise to move in the opposite direction. The joy of the lord is our strength and a fruit of the spirit, so if you’re walking through something that feels like the shadow of death just now I trust and pray that joy will break in with the dawn,

Mourn with those who mourn, and rejoice always

Oh- and please consider yourself invited to Connections on the 12th Sept after the 11am service – RSVP please

Grace and peace

Neil

PS Seven’s talk on ‘faith is a wake, Life after the death of God’, Traci’s ‘Anchored’ bible study and Marcus’ book club all happen tomorrow night. The dads of babies and toddlers meet on thurs night too

Hiya

19 August 2021

Hiya web, trust you’re having a good week

So we are in another transition. Change, transition and new seasons are always tricky and full of potential so I’m trying to get my head around the new term, I guess it’s only a couple of weeks away.

That’s after Holiday club next week of course. Thanks so much to those who have booked, or encouraged others to – it is so much easier to book in advance. Thanks

We are starting the next season all off with three nights of prayer on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of September. We are planning to do this in the room and online on zoom, please be part of it.

There’s been a transition in some of the discipleship groups. The leaders are getting together on the 13th and are lined up and ready to go with the groups. A couple have stopped some have morphed and some are brand new. It’s a great time to join a group, email Sara Ian@kingsland.org.uk

There is a wonderful bundle of other groups and opportunities to get together too, some mainly social, some very spiritual and many in between. Just putting together a leaflet with all of that in, which will be available on Sunday. As we transition to the new term please find a way of doing church in circles as well as rows. I was asked recently if we are a church of small groups or a church with small groups, hmmmm.

The MAP is looking good. Please apply before the end of August, or at least start a conversation in the next few days if you are thinking of applying so we can work out how to start well. We believe that could help you transition into significant leadership

In the meantime the summer groups have been so so good. Massive thanks to those who have been doing them. Most of them have finished, or do so this week, though I’m not half way through mine for young dads and the book club, Anchored bible study and the grandparenting course is still happening next week, and Seven has another ‘Big ideas’ session on ‘Faith is a wake.Life after the death of God’

Restocked the bookshop with some excellent new titles and a lovely new range of cards from the Lindisfarne Scriptorium, who we met on my hols. Such brilliant people, and lovely ‘Celtic’ designs

Also transitioning with our series of summer socials. The 3rd one is in Cudmore grove, east Mersea, from 4 to 9ish. Bring some food and we’ll organise a few activities or just chat

That’s the day before the ‘light a candle’ event with hunnables for those who have experienced loss. Please feel free to bring suitable people along.

Please pray that the transition to autumn goes well, I believe each season has its own grace, it’s own opportunity and its own flavour of favour from heaven, and it’s important to tap into that and live in the benefit of it. Lord, please….

Grace and peace

Neil

PS So enjoyed and appreciated Sunday’s dedication and BBQ but still slightly annoyed with myself: There were a few travellers on the car park when we arrived for church. A quick and very polite conversation meant they left before 9 am, and before I thought to offer them a coffee for their breakfast. Missed.

PPS still looking for accommodation for the DNA trainees – if you can help please hit reply

It’s Sunday

15 August 2021

Welcome! Welcome web, welcome to our services today.

Today we’re gathering in the building for sung worship, fellowship and teaching! We have designated one area of the Church for people who prefer to maintain social distance and wear a mask throughout. Thank you to those who are taking lateral flow tests. Please wear a mask at least until you are seated, and of course feel free to wear it throughout and bear in mind the need to sanitise and distance wherever possible. We’ll begin the service and the stream on YouTube and Facebook at 9.15, 11 and 6.30.

Neil is speaking this morning on ‘How to exasperate your children’ – maybe your folks knew this already!  Its part of the baby dedication service we are holding today at 11 and It’s an opportunity to pray for the babies that have been born recently, to celebrate life, to pray for families generally. The talk will be suitable for everyone – promise!

Tonight we’ll worship together and Loraine is speaking at  6.30. You are welcome in the building or on line. Shelley is speaking at Wednesday at 1 this week.

After the 11am service this morning we have BBQ food for the 70 who have tickets, Of course others are welcome to bring a picnic to the field behind the Crown.

We are sorry the stream had such huge problems last week. Andy, Shaun and Peter spent a lot of time on it on Friday and hopefully have ironed out some issues and made the whole online experience better.

We have taken stock of some new books for the bookshop, please have a browse. There are lots of special offers, books by church partners, bibles and cards

In case you missed it on the Hiya email – the latest Kingsland around the world newsletter is attached. Please use it for prayer for our missionaries

We’re planning three nights of prayer to start the new term – 7.30 on the 8th, 9th and 10th in the building ad on zoom. please make it a priority. We expect to start some Autumn small groups in the week or 2 after that to help us be church in circles as well as congregational rows

Some of our summer groups are still running – see the attached leaflet – if you’ve not joined a group yet there is still time….
Hazel is making sense of Ecclesiastes in one session on Monday at 3 pm in the Esther room or 8 pm on zoom

Hiya

27 July 2021

hiya web, trust you’re having a good week

Felt like I was swimming in liquid love as we worshipped out loud on Sunday morning, such a privilege to sing praises to Jesus! It was so good to see people again too, and great to be together. We need to steward the ‘masked at all times’ area much better in the second service, in fact if you’d like to join the steward/welcome team please let me or Ian know.

We’ll review the whole thing again after the school holidays as the autumn term begins to happen.

Loved the nearly aborted picnic in the park too. So nice to chat to people.

Connections is happening on Sunday after the second service, I really hope you can be part of this to find out more about kingsland, especially if you’re thinking of making it your home church

Just now we have the wonderful summer small groups. There’s been a really good take up for most of the groups. ‘Honey Are we rich yet?’ Is a relationship course for entrepreneurs and their spouses which Bolaji and Samuel are developing in response to the pressures on relationships that the entrepreneurial journey brings. Emma is piloting a course on self-esteem, particularly for mothers of girls, the need for which has become obvious through Emmas wonderful work in schools. Maggie is piloting a grandparenting course as an ideas factory and supportive discussion group, Traci is looking at some of the biblical truths that have held her firm in a very difficult year,  Hazel loves helping people get their head around Old Testament scripture with the Bible project material, Marcus is always excited about a bookclub and Gail is such a good mentor for contemplative prayer and spiritual discipline. Seven is always worth listening to, he has a rare gift of making the unfathomable comprehensible, and, as a church, we are introducing the parenting for faith courses. So lots of wonderful new initiatives, some of which might become famous! In any case please join in, and please book in as there are some changes to venues and some groups have material we’d like to get to you beforehand.

I have to say I feel quite proud that we can offer such a good suite of opportunities for people to meet, think, grow and develop. So exciting, and it’s been so good to get reports of the groups that have already started

There are opportunities for youth, children and toddlers too, Bec led a lovely session in the park this morning.

There’s also the praying in tongues group each morning on line at 8.15, there were 17 people in our Zoom room today.

And Ian has told me there’s a men’s breakfast on Saturday week, 7th Aug at 8.30. Proper food. Glory.  Email ian@kingsland.org.uk to book (essential please)

Anyway, I really wanted to remind you of the summer groups so that you don’t miss out, such a good way to meet new people and become part of it all

Grace and peace

Neil
